Provides an independently configurable input range

Linear Technology Korea announced the release of an 18-bit, 8-channel 1Msps multiplexed input SAR (successive approximation register) ADC (product name: LTC2335-18) that allows for independent configuration of input ranges. Each SoftSpan™ input can be software-configured on a convert-to-convert basis to accommodate ±10.24V, 0V to 10.24V, ±5.12V, or 0V to 5.12V.

Through the on-chip sequencer, the LTC2335-18 can be programmed to rotate through the sequencer's channels and ranges without additional user intervention. The differential analog input operates over a wide input common mode range of –16.5V to 34V, and the ADC can directly digitize various signals, allowing the design of signal chains to be simplified. Combined with excellent 96.7dB SNR and 1Msps processing speed, this input signal flexibility makes the LTC2335-18 ideal for high-performance industrial process control, test and measurement, power line monitoring, and instrumentation applications.



The LTC2335-18 features a built-in precision reference with a maximum temperature coefficient of 20 ppm/°C and an integrated reference buffer that enables accurate one-time measurements, saving space on a densely packed circuit board. Optionally, an external 5V reference can be used to extend the analog input range to ±12.5V. This device consumes 180mW when converted at 1Msps and provides nap mode or power-down mode to reduce power consumption at slower processing speeds.

The LTC2335-18 features pin-selectable SPI CMOS and LVDS serial interfaces. With a wide digital output power range, this device can communicate with CMOS logic between 1.8V and 5V. Serial LVDS mode provides low-noise, high-speed communication over superior distances using differential signals. In addition, these I/O interface options enable the LTC2335-18 to communicate with existing microcontrollers and state-of-the-art FPGAs on an equivalent level.

The LTC2335-18 is an addition to the high-performance family of multi-channel 18-/16-bit SAR ADCs featuring a true bipolar ±10.24V simultaneous sampling input (LTC2348). All specifications are guaranteed over an extended temperature range of –40°C to 125°C. The LTC2335-18 is available in a 48-pin 7mm x 7mm LQFP package and starts at $18.95 per unit for 1,000-unit quantities.
