Xilinx Demonstrates Target Design Platform for Wireless and Baseband Processing at MWC 2011
Xilinx Korea (Country Manager Ahn Heung-sik) February 22, 2011 – At MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2011, held in Barcelona, Spain from February 14 to 17, Xilinx unveiled a target design platform for cellular infrastructure utilizing FPGAs capable of global wireless communication, along with affordable and powerful solutions for wireless, baseband, and connectivity. This market-oriented platform integrates the latest hardware, software, and IP innovations, enabling network infrastructure vendors and operators to reduce investment, operation, and development costs for software-defined wireless and 3/4G multimode base stations.
Xilinx demonstrated a wireless development environment capable of addressing evolving standards and application requirements, such as LTE (Long Term Evolution) baseband and multimode wireless subsystems, through collaboration with a world-class ecosystem. Customers visiting the Xilinx booth were able to speak directly with experts about best practices for optimizing the cost, power, and performance of wireless system architectures.
Reduction in Wireless Infrastructure CapEx and OpEx
At MWC 2011, Xilinx® demonstrated a multi-mode wireless target design platform connected to an Analog Devices MSDPD (Mixed Signal Digital Pre-Distortion) system board via an FMC (FPGA Mezzanine Card) connector, along with the Virtex®-6 FPGA ML605 development board. In addition to the two boards, Xilinx collaborated with Nujira, a leading ET (Envelope Tracking) developer, to add support for Nujira's Coolteq.h modulator. The demo design features Xilinx Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) and Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) equipped with Nujira amplifiers that provide high-efficiency power amplification exceeding 50%. Through the combination of high efficiency provided by Xilinx CFR and DPD IP and Nujira modulators, operators can save millions of dollars in operating costs. Furthermore,
