New tag solution delivers 4x faster data transfer performance

NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI) today announced a new NFC solution that can drive innovation in embedded system design in smart homes, access control, and home banking, paving the way for a new era of Near Field Communication (NFC).

NXP has expanded its connected tag solution portfolio with the introduction of the NTAG I²C Plus, which combines passive NFC with an I²C interface. The I²C interface supports NFC commissioning and enables easy "tap-to-connect" connectivity between smart devices and home networks.

The new tag solution delivers four times faster data transfer performance and adds advanced new features such as password protection, full memory access on both ends of the interface, and ECC-based originality signatures for anti-cloning.

At Embedded World 2016, NXP also announced the PN7462, a highly integrated single-chip solution that combines a low-power ARM® Cortex®-M0 microcontroller core with contact and contactless interfaces, including full support for USB and NFC.

The PN7462 family, which integrates various technologies, supports the entire MIFARE product portfolio and comes with NFC Forum and EMVCo 2.5-compliant software libraries. It is suitable for applications such as corporate access, hospitality, and home banking. To facilitate rapid product development and certification, the PN7462 family features NXP's innovative Dynamic Power Control (DPC) feature to ensure robust communication even in harsh environments.

The NTAG I2C Plus is available now and is officially available through all major NXP distributors. The PN7462 family is scheduled for production in April 2016.
