Camera "captures the moment" of rapidly moving data and synchronizes efficiently with pulsed light sources

ON Semiconductor has launched the AR0135 global shutter CMOS image sensor, another key technology in image sensing. The 1.2MP imaging device in 1/3-inch format meets the requirements of emerging applications including automotive imaging systems, high-speed barcode scanning, virtual reality, and 3D scanning.

The newly launched global shutter sensor allows the camera to "capture the moment" of rapidly moving data and synchronizes efficiently with pulsed light sources. The AR0135 sensor adopts an innovative new global shutter pixel design with 10 times lower dark current and 4 times higher shutter efficiency compared to existing products.

These enhanced capabilities enable clear, low-noise image generation in both high-temperature environments and in dim or bright conditions. This enables eye-tracking and gesture recognition functionality in next-generation vehicle interiors, and is expected to improve image detection speed in barcode scanning as well.

This device with 1,280 x 960 pixels can operate at 54 frames per second (fps) at full resolution and up to 60 fps at 720p. It also features a trigger pin for easy control of external LED light sources and Flash control built-in, making it easier to synchronize multiple sensors in stereo camera applications and providing various multifunction benefits including enhanced overall system control.

An integrated temperature sensor and statistics engine further enhance the diagnostic and control capabilities of the camera system. Support for parallel and serial output (via 4-lane HiSPi interface) provides output flexibility, which is one of the key features.
