Jointly promote the 'Elementary, Middle, and High School SW Education Cloud Pilot Support Project'

KT is partnering with Hancom to explore a new cloud office business model targeting the public and education markets. KT announced on the 7th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for business cooperation on the cloud office business with Hancom, a leading domestic office software company, at the Hancom building in Pangyo.

Through a business partnership, KT, the largest domestic cloud infrastructure service (IaaS) provider, will jointly pursue a cloud office business targeting the public and education markets with Hancom, a leading domestic cloud software service (SaaS) provider. In addition, this business partnership includes plans to expand into both the individual and enterprise markets to broaden the domestic cloud market in the future.

Meanwhile, following the full-scale implementation of the 'Cloud Computing Development Act' in September last year, which led to the increased use of private cloud services by domestic public institutions, KT and Hancom are jointly promoting the 'Elementary, Middle, and High School Software Education Cloud Pilot Support Project' organized by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (hereinafter MSIT) and the National Information Society Agency (hereinafter NIA).

Continued cooperation to establish a cloud-based educational environment

Through this project, KT is supplying Hancom’s educational cloud office to approximately 8,000 students across 23 elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide. This is expected to lead to high learning outcomes, as teachers can manage classes efficiently and systematically, while students can participate in classes easily and quickly.

Starting with this pilot project, KT and Hancom plan to continue pursuing business cooperation to ensure that a stable cloud-based educational environment is established in all elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide. In addition, we plan to strategically link the services of both companies to expand our cloud business into the enterprise market in the future, as well as actively explore joint service development and marketing initiatives.

Lee Moon-hwan, Executive Vice President and Head of KT’s Corporate Business Division, stated, “2016 marks the beginning of full-scale cloud adoption in the public and education sectors, so forming a strategic alliance with Hancom, a software leader, holds great significance.” He added, “We plan to expand the scope of our cooperation to the corporate and consumer markets in the future, and based on KT’s competitive cloud infrastructure, we will strengthen collaboration with domestic solution companies to establish a mutually beneficial cooperative structure in the domestic ICT market.”

Hancom Group Chairman Kim Sang-chul stated, “It is highly significant that Hancom, a leading domestic cloud office company, has joined hands with KT, the nation’s No. 1 cloud infrastructure company, for the full-scale growth of the Korean cloud industry, which is currently lagging somewhat behind the global cloud market,” and added, “With a sense of mission for the development of the domestic cloud industry, we will strive even harder to develop and expand various cloud services that can enhance efficiency and productivity.”
