Symmetricom Launches Industry's First Chip-Scale Atomic Clock
- New Product Added to QUANTUM™ Atomic Oscillator Product Family -
- Ideal for Small Form Factor Applications, Featuring Low Power Consumption, Accuracy, Compact Size, and Lightweight Design -
January 19, 2011, San Jose, California – Symmetricom, Inc. (www.symmetricom.com), a leading company in precision timing and frequency technology, announced the commercialization of the world's smallest low-power atomic oscillator.
The SA.45s chip-scale atomic clock is a product that significantly improves size, weight, and power consumption while adding accuracy and stability to atomic clock technology.
Newly added to Symmetricom's QUANTUM™ atomic oscillator product family, this product is particularly suitable for portable applications that must maintain precise synchronization and timekeeping even in environments where GPS signals cannot be detected.
The SA.45s CSAC, boasting accuracy and ultra-low power consumption, meets the growing demand for many portable applications including portable explosive jammers, unmanned aerial vehicles (UVA), next-generation radios, military handheld GPS terminals, as well as life-rescue communication equipment and rock/formation property exploration instruments.
This product incorporates innovative technology that enhances the functionality of portable applications. Operating with only a 16cc volume, 35-gram lightweight, and 115mW low power consumption, this product provides timing accuracy more than ten times greater than higher-power quartz-based solutions such as Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillators (OCXOs) and Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillators (TCXOs).
Dan Scharre, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Symmetricom, stated that this product provides ultra-high precision and low power consumption for a variety of portable and subsea exploration applications, saying "These applications are unable to continuously receive GPS signals, and offer significantly greater competitiveness in size, accuracy, and power consumption compared to conventional quartz-based timing options with lower accuracy. Based on our history and expertise in cutting-edge timing systems and device technology, we have brought this first CSAC product to market in a minimal power consumption, minimum-size package, enabling our customers to develop the high-performance, high-reliability products they require."

The benefits of Symmetricom's QUANTUM™ SA.45s CSAC advanced technology are already evident in companies that have adopted this component in their products
