National Semiconductor Adds Three High-Voltage Products to Simple Switcher Power Module Family
An easy-to-use module driving loads up to 3A in various applications

January 20, 2011 – National Semiconductor Korea (CEO: Choi Chung-won) today introduced three new SIMPLE SWITCHER® power modules, the first of their kind in the industry, designed to drive high-output voltage applications across various sectors including industrial, telecommunications infrastructure, and defense. The easy-to-use LMZ14201H, LMZ14202H, and LMZ14203H power modules offer the simplicity of linear regulators combined with the efficiency of synchronous switching regulators, resolving the common design challenges of complex layouts and the use of external inductors in switching regulators.

The LMZ14201H, LMZ14202H, and LMZ14203H accommodate input voltage rails in the 6V to 42V range and provide a highly accurate output voltage adjustable up to 24V. Since the switching frequency is controlled by a single resistor, design flexibility is greatly enhanced.

This module is pin-to-pin compatible with other products, features a built-in shielded inductor, and boasts an efficiency of up to 97%. Since the module meets both CISPR 22 Class B radiated and conducted emission standards, the integrated inductor reduces EMI (electromagnetic interference) issues.

The LMZ14201H, LMZ14202H, and LMZ14203H drive loads in the 1A to 3A range and are suitable for generating intermediate bus voltages within a system using a distributed point of load (POL) architecture. Thanks to their high efficiency and excellent thermal performance, these modules are ideal for use in systems without airflow. In addition, products used in conjunction with special function circuits can generate a -15V bias supply, thus providing a wider dynamic range in audio amplifiers such as National's LME49880.
