Demonstration of Multi-Antenna ( MIMO) -based 'FDR (Full Duplex Radio) ' technology

LG Electronics ranked first in the world for five consecutive years in LTE/LTE-A (4G) standard patents.

TechIPM, a U.S. patent analysis firm, recently released the results of its analysis on LTE/LTE-A standard patents related to terminals and base stations filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office up to last year. The study found that LG Electronics holds the most patents among global patent filers. Standard patents refer to technologies whose performance is difficult to achieve without the specific patent.

When the industry files standard patents globally, it files in multiple countries, always including the United States. According to the analysis of recent applications to the U.S. Patent Office, LG Electronics has effectively ranked first in the world for LTE/LTE-A standard patents for five consecutive years.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics is also proactively developing technology in the 5G standard sector. Last October, LG Electronics demonstrated the world's first 'Full Duplex Radio (FDR)' technology based on Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), which it jointly developed with Yonsei University. In addition, at the international IT/telecommunications conference 'GlobeComm' in December of the same year, 'FDR' technology, which demonstrated world-class communication performance, was demonstrated.

'FDR', developed by LG Electronics, is a technology expected to become the 5G standard as it improves frequency efficiency by up to two times compared to existing technologies, enabling a doubling of communication speeds or the number of users.
