High-performance 6A converter in a 3mm x 3mm QFN package, achieving 95% power efficiency at full load

TI Korea (CEO Jaejin Kim, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) December 27, 2010 – TI is launching a new, industry-leading, ultra-compact, high-efficiency 6A DC/DC converter as part of its SWIFT™ power management IC family. Featuring two integrated 12mΩ FETs, the new TPS54618 monolithic synchronous switcher provides 2.95V to 6V power with 95% efficiency and low operating current for Point-Of-Load (POL) designs required for DSP and FPGA-based communications, test, and medical equipment. The TPS54618 is 30% smaller than other 6A devices, with a total solution size of only 140 mm². As an integrated converter, it provides high performance and high reliability, including current mode control, and offers excellent flexibility in component selection, such as simple external compensation circuits and, in particular, small ceramic capacitors. The convenient and expandable TPS54618 is pin-compatible with other low-current SWIFT synchronous buck converters, such as the 3A, 2MHz TPS54318.
