OTA Updates Reduce Individual Vehicle Update Time and Costs

Wind River (www.windriver.com) announced that it has integrated Arynga software into its automotive product portfolio. Arynga Software is a specialist in vehicle software OTA (over-the-air) updates, supporting both SOTA (Software Over The Air) and FOTA (Firmware Over The Air), and the Arynga Software and development team are now included in Wind River's Automotive Business Division.

Wind River plans to expand its market presence and lead innovation through OTA technology integration while continuing to provide support to existing Arynga customers. In particular, through Arynga's distinctive SOTA/FOTA technology, Wind River plans to strengthen its automotive lifecycle management capabilities.

The newly provided OTA update technology will offer various benefits in the future by innovating connected car and autonomous driving technology, enhancing vehicle security, and reducing software-related costs, thereby playing an important role in IoT expansion not only in the automotive industry but also in various markets over the long term.

Through OTA software updates, it becomes potentially possible to easily and quickly apply pre- and post-deployment features even after vehicles are released from the factory, enabling enhanced driving experience. Vehicle manufacturers have often faced the challenge of implementing large-scale software updates across multiple versions during the development process while conducting vehicle fleet tests; however, with OTA functionality, OEMs can now manage software installed in vehicles throughout the entire development lifecycle and maintain them at the latest version through updates.

In particular, upon post-development deployment, OTA updates offer the advantage of dramatically reducing software quality assurance and recall-related costs. Additionally, with new software, it is possible to continuously enhance vehicle and brand experience and develop new potential revenue streams that were previously impossible, thereby continuously improving vehicle value.
