STMicroelectronics Announces Powerful High-Voltage Rectifier for High-Efficiency Power Conversion

200V Power Schottky Diodes for Communication Base Stations and Industrial Applications Differentiated by Industry-Leading ESD Protection

Korea, October 10, 2011 – STMicroelectronics ( www.st.com ), a world-leading integrated semiconductor company, has released a new high-voltage Schottky diode that can increase the energy efficiency and robustness of equipment such as communication base stations and welding machines.

ST's new 200V power Schottky rectifier diode, the STPS60SM200C, can be used in high-current AC/DC power supplies that provide a typical DC output voltage range from 30V to 50V. With a maximum reverse voltage performance of 200V available even under worst-case operating conditions, it provides the design margin necessary to withstand overvoltage and operates perfectly even at -40°C, making it suitable for use in communication base stations in all regions of the world.

STPS60SM200C is one of the few 200V Schottky devices currently in the industry that integrates two interconnected diodes into a 3-pin package, enabling it to provide higher energy efficiency than ultra-fast diodes, which are typically characterized by high conduction losses. Since about 30% of the latest base stations are still designed using ultra-high-speed diodes, ST will apply its powerful new product to most of these applications and become an alternative to high-end platforms that are already using Schottky diodes.

Using ST's proprietary process technology, the STPS60SM200C achieves ESD protection characteristics of over 2kV, higher than competing Schottky devices of similar performance, when measured according to IEC 61000-4-2. This ensures increased sustainability against destructive threats such as voltage transients, ultimately eliminating equipment downtime while minimizing repair costs. These savings are particularly important for remote communication base stations, where repairs require significant time and expense.
