Element14 Launches Infrared Camera for Raspberry Pi
Published2016.04.29 14:25Element14, the manufacturer and distributor of the Raspberry Pi series, has announced the release of two upgraded cameras. The Raspberry Pi Camera v2 and the Raspberry Pi NoIR Camera v2 are products that further diversify the applications of the Raspberry Pi.
These two official Raspberry Pi cameras feature an improved 8MP resolution and an image sensor that can capture still images at 3280 x 2464 pixels on the Raspberry Pi. Like previous versions, they support 1080p30, 720p60, and 640x480p90 video and connect to the Raspberry Pi via a dedicated CSi interface. The NoIR Camera v2 has a No InfraRed (NoIR) filter on the lens, enabling it to take infrared pictures and capture images in low-light environments. Both models are compatible with previous Raspberry Pi models and have the same size and weight as the previous 5MP version.
Measuring just 25mm x 35mm x 9mm, it could be the star of exciting projects like sending a weather observation balloon into the stratosphere. It is also ideal for demanding applications such as low-light photography, drone filming, CCTV, weather stations, and educational projects thanks to its NoIR filter.

Online electronics component retailer Element14 is expanding its product portfolio with passive components from manufacturers such as TE Connectivity, Ohmite, Bourns, and Vishay. The new products include TE Corcom Power Line filters for industrial, telecommunications, and test equipment applications, Ohmite/Arcol HS aluminum housing resistors, Bourns gas discharge tubes, and Vishay flat chip high-voltage precision thin-film resistors. TE Connectivity's Corcom Power Line filter, the EJT series IEC inlet filters, feature universal applicability and include IEC320-C14 inlets that deliver high-frequency performance up to 1GHz, making them suitable for medical diagnostic, test, and telecommunications equipment.
