KT Rides the Second Middle East Boom with ICT Modernization Projects in the 'Land of Opportunity'
Published2016.05.03 11:47KT announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TCI (Telecommunication Company of Iran), Iran's largest telecommunications operator, and TEM (TCI's largest shareholder) regarding the 'ICT infrastructure modernization project' in Iran.
The memorandum of understanding between KT and TCI/TEM covers not only wired and wireless network infrastructure but also the entire ICT industry, including IDC, smart cities, IoT, and 5G. In addition, both companies plan to form a working group to facilitate specific business initiatives, and it is expected that they will play a supporting role in the modernization of Iran's ICT infrastructure by leveraging KT's ICT capabilities.
KT has been conducting telecommunications-related business in Iran since 2011 and has been carrying out IP network and control center design projects to enhance the competitiveness of TCI's telecommunications services.
In addition, we plan to create a global business model applicable to other countries in the future by providing a total solution that encompasses strategic consulting, design, implementation, and operational support for TCI's high-speed internet.
To this end, KT Chairman Hwang Chang-kyu plans to explore various business opportunities in Iran, which has emerged as a new axis of the 'Second Middle East Boom,' by exchanging views on telecommunications business with Iranian Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Mohtashami and attending the 'Korea-Iran Business Forum,' and expand participation in Iran's ICT infrastructure modernization projects.
KT Chairman Hwang Chang-kyu stated, “The signing of a memorandum of understanding with TEM/TCI, the largest local telecommunications operator in Iran, which is attracting global attention as a new ‘land of opportunity’ following the lifting of economic sanctions, has once again proven Korea’s IT competitiveness to the global market,” and expressed his ambition, adding, “Going forward, KT will strengthen the export of telecommunications technology through its advanced ICT competitiveness.”

KT to Lead 5G Ecosystem by Hosting IWPC Workshop
KT announced on the 25th that it will host the 'IWPC 5G Workshop' for fostering a 5G ecosystem at the JW Marriott Hotel in Dongdaemun from the 25th to the 29th over five days. IWPC (International Wireless Industry Consortium) is a consortium established in 1998 for the industrialization of semiconductor development and manufacturing technology, and has now expanded its scope to encompass overall wireless-related technologies, providing direction to the industry as a whole through presentations and discussions among operators. Various agendas regarding the 5G ecosystem and services will be discussed, ranging from system and terminal development to measurement equipment, millimeter-wave band component and device procurement, and user-oriented service development.

KT Unveils Enterprise LTE That Maintains Speed While Enjoying Security Benefits
KT held a press briefing on the 26th at KT Square on Sejong-daero in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, and announced the full launch of its 'Enterprise LTE' service. Enterprise LTE is a concept that provides dedicated line-equivalent service over wireless networks based on the nationwide LTE infrastructure, tailored to each company's environment. The most distinctive feature is that companies can achieve security benefits by accessing their internal networks through an enterprise-dedicated gateway, in a completely isolated environment separate from general wireless internet networks. Additionally, in the Enterprise LTE environment, access management for contact applications such as access sites, recording devices, and cameras can be easily controlled. Furthermore, unlike the existing in-house wireless networks built using WiFi, TRS, Wibro and other technologies, Enterprise LTE provides up to 50 times faster mobile network environments at full LTE speeds available to enterprises, and whereas previous in-house wireless network coverage was limited to business locations, it can now be used nationwide.

KT Completes 3 Major Strategies for Fostering Startups
KT는 스타트업이 가장 어려움을 겪는 세 가지 분야에 집중해 지원하는 ‘스타트업 사업지원 3대 전략’을 완성했다고 밝혔다.
