Open Source Integrated Development Environment with Cross-Platform Support Features Released

- Added multiple concurrent debugging sessions, an advanced editor, and code completion features to the new MPLAB® X IDE

Microchip Technology (Country Manager for Korea: Byung-Don Han), a global leader in microcontroller, analog, and flash IP solutions, today unveiled MPLAB X IDE, a next-generation open-source integrated development environment featuring cross-platform support for Linux, Mac OS®, and Windows operating systems. This new IDE includes various high-performance features such as the ability to manage multiple projects and tools through concurrent debugging, an advanced editor, a visual call graph, and code completion. Furthermore, MPLAB X is the industry's only integrated development environment that supports the entire portfolio of 8-, 16-, and 32-bit microcontrollers, including over 800 types of all PIC® microcontrollers, dsPIC digital signal controllers, and memory devices.

Today's advanced embedded application designers require a reliable IDE as a high-performance, user-friendly, and flexible development foundation. They also want such IDEs to be easy to migrate and compatible with a wide range of development tools for a diverse and stable portfolio of microcontrollers to reduce the learning curve and protect their investment in tools and code. MPLAB X features a single integrated graphical interface for Microchip and third-party tools, including MPLAB ICD 3, PICkit 3, and MPLAB REAL ICE debugger/programmer.

MPLAB X is based on the open-source NetBeans platform sponsored by Oracle. This platform is characterized by extensive feature enhancements and an active user community that contributes to third-party plugins. In fact, Microchip customers can utilize a wide variety of existing free NetBeans software components and plugins. Additionally, MPLAB X users can use the NetBeans platform to customize the IDE to suit their individual development needs.
