Silicon Motion Announces Commercial SSD Controller Supporting 3D TLC NAND
Published2016.06.02 17:06Silicon Motion announced the release of the SM2258, the world's first commercial SATA 6Gb/s SSD controller total solution (ASIC/firmware) that supports the latest 3D TLC NAND from all major NAND suppliers.
Wallace Kou, President and CEO of Silicon Motion , stated, “NAND suppliers are already preparing for the transition to 3D TLC NAND to accelerate SSD adoption and help improve customers’ purchasing power.”
In addition, they added, “As a market-leading product for NAND controllers, our newly introduced SM2258 controller solution will enable our partners to rapidly bring the latest, low-cost 3D TLC-based SSDs to market without compromising performance or functionality, thereby replacing HDDs in various high-end markets and applications much faster.”
Gregory Wong, founder and principal analyst at Forward Insights, stated, “As 3D NAND approaches half the level of client SSDs next year, SSD controllers that enable affordable, high-performance 3D TLC NAND-based solutions will become critical during this transition.”

Samsung Electronics Mass-Produces Ultra-High-Speed, Smallest Form Factor BGA NVMe SSD
Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of the world's smallest and lightest BGA NVMe SSD, weighing only 1 gram (g) and measuring just 2 centimeters (cm), while offering a capacity of 512GB. The '512GB BGA NVMe SSD' is a product that integrates NAND flash, DRAM, and controller in a single package, with a volume that is merely 1/100th that of a 2.5-inch HDD. Unlike conventional SSDs where NAND, DRAM, and controller are mounted on a PCB substrate, BGA (Ball Grid Array) SSDs are ultra-compact SSDs that integrate NAND, DRAM, and controller into a single package without a PCB substrate. NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory express) is a protocol designed to enhance the performance and design flexibility of servers and PCs equipped with PCIe interface-based SSDs, making it suitable for ultra-high-speed, high-capacity data processing.

SalePoint Signs Multi-Year Partnership Agreement with AWS… Promoting Identity Security that Integrates Even AI Agents
Sailpoint has entered into a multi-year strategic partnership agreement with AWS and is moving forward with establishing an integrated governance system that manages both human and non-human identities together. The plan is to consistently manage access permissions in an environment where AI agents are increasing as work execution entities, while applying the principle of least privilege and automated policy enforcement. The two companies plan to jointly expand capabilities to manage the identities of various entities, including AI agents, within a single layer in the AWS environment. This collaboration is interpreted as a move to design security and governance together in corporate environments where AI adoption is expanding.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
