SWIFT™ Step-Down DC/DC Converter with Accurate Differential Remote Voltage Sensing

TI (CEO Kent Tran) announces the launch of the industry's first 40A, 16V input voltage (VIN) synchronous step-down DC/DC converter capable of sensing accurate differential remote voltage.

The SWIFT TPS548D22 buck converter integrates MOSFETs in a compact PowerStack™ package, making it particularly suitable for driving ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits) and DSP (Digital Signal Processor) in space-constrained applications.

When using the TPS548D22 together with TI's WEBENCH® Power Designer tool, developers can accelerate development speed with intensive power in wired/wireless communications, enterprise and cloud computing, and data storage system design.

The TPS548D22 DC/DC converter adopts D-CAP3™ control mode topology to achieve 0.5% reference voltage accuracy with respect to temperature, and can sense accurate differential remote voltage, thereby meeting the voltage ripple requirements of ultra-fine sub-micron processors.

The TPS548D22 features integrated 2.9/1.2mΩ high-side/low-side RDS(ON) power MOSFETs, improving power density and system reliability. By using precise differential remote voltage sensing to control output voltage, it improves output voltage characteristics under load variations and overall system accuracy.

The user-friendly D-CAP3 adaptive on-time control mode exhibits high accuracy and fast response characteristics even to excessive load changes, and requires no loop compensation, thus minimizing design complexity and the number of required external components.

The PowerStack QFN (quad flat no-lead) package provides very high power density and enables easy heat dissipation to the PCB (printed circuit board) ground layer using only a small number of vias from a single ground pad on the bottom of the IC. Additionally, it supports built-in soft start, input stage low voltage, and Thermal Shutdown protection circuits for predictable and reliable operation.

The TPS548D22 is the first product in the 40A converter product family and has been newly added to TI's high-current DC/DC SWIFT product portfolio. TI provides various resources to help developers determine whether MOSFET-integrated converters are suitable for point-of-load (POL) power supply design.
