Gemalto supplies LinqUs On-Demand Connectivity (ODC) registration management solutions and embedded SIMs (eSIMs) to Japanese mobile carrier KDDI.

KDDI, with over 40 million subscribers, has been able to secure connectivity for connected cars and IoT applications worldwide by leveraging Gemalto's solutions. As a result, KDDI is now able to provision all pre-requested operator profiles for connected cars equipped with pre-embedded eSIMs.

This enables automotive manufacturers and solution providers to seamlessly provide remote registration capabilities throughout the vehicle's lifespan. Drivers can now access real-time, user-optimized information—including traffic conditions, nearby amenities, navigation, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency services—regardless of location or time.

According to market research firm Gartner, the number of vehicles equipped with various wireless connectivity capabilities is projected to reach 250 million by 2020, making connected cars a key component of the Internet of Things. However, remote registration management, which lacks flexibility and interoperability in IoT adoption, is emerging as a critical challenge that needs to be addressed. Gemalto's solution, built on global GSMA technical specifications, will streamline logistics for OEMs and automakers. Linkus ODC supports multiple IoT connectivity platforms and provides KDDI with the highest level of flexibility.
