Anritsu Launches MD8475B All-in-One Base Station Simulator

Anritsu announced the launch of a new signal tester MD8475B for use in the R&D division to evaluate the performance of UEs supporting various communication standards including the latest LTE-Advanced specifications.
The newly developed all-in-one MD8475B tester is designed for the R&D division developing smartphones and performing performance testing and IP layer throughput testing of the latest UEs equipped with 4 Component Carrier Aggregation (4 CC CA) and 2x2 MIMO technologies. Since the MD8475B uses SmartStudio state-machine software that provides a user-friendly GUI and a stable automated measurement environment, no separate test scenarios are required.
With widespread use of high-performance mobile terminals such as smartphones, data traffic volume is increasing explosively.
To handle greater traffic volumes, the latest LTE-Advanced technology, which provides faster speeds than conventional LTE, is increasingly used worldwide. Key technologies for improving speed include Carrier Aggregation (CA), which aggregates multiple component carriers, and MIMO, which uses multiple input and output antennas.
Using such technologies increases the number of RFs, making the test environment more complex. Additionally, a tester that supports convenient and stable UE performance evaluation is required for Inter-RAT testing of existing legacy systems.
To meet these demands, Anritsu developed the all-in-one MD8475B tester that provides a 4CC CA test environment for the R&D division developing LTE-Advanced terminals. Equipped with a simple and easy-to-use SmartStudio GUI, this tester is a complete solution for LTE-Advanced and 2G/3G Inter-RAT test performance verification.
SmartStudio enables fast and easy UE verification without the need for complex test scenarios. SmartStudio for signal tester MD8475A has been used as an ideal test solution for users at all stages from the early development phase of smartphones to mature markets, including LTE call processing testing, emergency and early warning testing such as ETWS, mobility testing, IMS testing such as VoLTE/RCS, and WiFi Offload testing.
Development and verification testing efficiency can be improved using the automation tool SmartStudio Manager. The automation control tool SmartStudio Manager for SmartStudio plays an important role in improving development efficiency by facilitating smooth transition from UE development to regression and stress testing requiring an automated test environment.
SmartStudio Manager not only fully reuses test cases generated with MD8475A but also can derive CC combinations, MIMO antenna combinations, and RF band combinations required for LTE-Advanced verification to automate a significant portion of the required network tests.

Anritsu Base Station Simulator Provides 98% Coverage for eCall Conformance Testing
Anritsu announced that it provides coverage reaching 98% of eCall conformance test items (as defined by EN16454) using its simulator. The newly released version of the eCall tester is expected to support the safe and stable development and production of eCall modules while maintaining high reliability. eCall is an EU Commission project designed to ensure rapid emergency assistance for victims of vehicle accidents. When an accident occurs, the IVS (In-Vehicle System) detects the collision and initiates an automatic or manual emergency call to the PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point), providing information such as accident location, current time, number of occupants in the vehicle, and vehicle model as MSD (Minimum Set of Data), which is then converted and transmitted as an audio message.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
