Edgecore Strengthens Open Networking Data Center with New Open Switch Launch
Published2016.07.06 17:29Infoae (CEO Jo Seon-hee), the official Korean partner of Edgecore Networks, announced the official launch in Korea of the AS7712-32X, a 100-gigabit-class open data center switch, and the AS5812-54T equipped with 10-gigabit UTP ports.
The AS7712-32X 100-gigabit open data center switch, equipped with 32 QSFP28 ports, is equipped with ONIE (Open Networking Install Environment) and features a Broadcom Tomahawk 3.2Tbps ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) and Intel Atom C2538 (x86) CPU, providing strong switching performance as a spine or top-of-rack switch.
The 1U form-factor AS7712-32X provides 40/50/100Gbe uplink performance when connected to 10/25/50Gbe servers and supports spine interconnection of 40/50/100Gbe as a spine switch. In particular, the AS7712-32X open data center switch enables installation not only of commercial Network Operating Systems such as Pica8 and BigMon Fabric, but also open-source software and operating systems such as ONL (Open Network Linux) and Open Switch, providing high versatility.
The AS5812-54T, equipped with 48 10Gbe UTP ports and 6 40Gbe uplink ports, is a powerful top-of-rack switch providing Layer2/3 full line-rate switching, featuring a Broadcom Trident2+ ASIC and x86 CPU to deliver strong switching performance as well as essential functionality for network virtualization such as VXLAN and NVGRE tunneling.
The AS5812-54T 10Gbe open data center switch also comes with ONIE (Open Networking Install Environment) pre-installed as standard, supporting commercial operating systems such as Cumulus Linux and Big Switch while simultaneously supporting open-source software packages such as ONL.

Netgear Launches 10 Gigabit Smart Managed Switch for Small and Medium Businesses
Netgear (Korea General Manager Kim Jin-kyeom, NASDAQ: NTGR) announced that it will officially launch three types of 10 gigabit smart managed switches in Korea on the 9th, which help network administrators at small and medium-sized enterprises conveniently set up and manage in-house networks through web browsers. The Netgear ProSAFE® XS700 series being launched this time consists of smart managed switches with built-in ports supporting 100, 1000, and 10 gigabit Ethernet, with 8, 16, and 48 ports respectively, with model names XS708T, XS716T, and XS748T.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
