SK Telecom to Specially Manage Traffic in 'Pokemon Go' Holy Lands, Including Sokcho

SK Telecom (CEO Jang Dong-hyun) announced on the 26th that it has established special communication measures centered on major vacation spots across the country where mobile communication traffic is expected to surge through big data analysis in preparation for the summer vacation season.
SK Telecom has completed preparations for stable service provision, including mobile base station deployment and base station capacity expansion. SK Telecom has comprehensively analyzed changes in summer vacation traffic and customer movement trends, utilizing big data from several years, such as call volume and data usage, and as a result, selected approximately 5,000 base stations around major vacation spots as special management targets.
SK Telecom plans to implement communication measures for the 36 days of the holiday season for these facilities until the end of next month (July 26-August 31). In particular, the two weeks until the 7th of next month, when the holiday season is concentrated, will be designated as an intensive management period, and around 200 personnel will conduct real-time monitoring through the situation room every day. In the event of an emergency such as a typhoon or heavy rain, we also plan to operate a disaster management system to quickly assess the situation and take on-site measures.

In addition, there are plans to increase base station capacity in Sokcho, Yangyang, and Ulsan (Ganjeolgot), which are recently emerging as meccas for the AR game 'Pokemon Go', as well as to implement special management such as expanding Wi-Fi zones and deploying mobile A/S vehicles.
SK Telecom predicted that traffic in major vacation spots this year will increase by more than 100% compared to normal times, and T Map, which is heavily used during the vacation season, is expected to increase by 76%, and international roaming by around 19%.
