Silicon wafer shipments in the second quarter rose 6.6% from the previous quarter
Published2016.07.27 13:42The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced in its recently released global wafer industry quarterly report that silicon wafer shipments increased in the second quarter compared to the first quarter.
Silicon area shipments during the second quarter totaled 2.706 billion square inches, up 6.6% from 2.538 billion square inches in the first quarter. This is 0.1% higher than the highest shipment record (2.702 billion square inches) recorded in the second quarter of last year.
Volker Braetsch, Chairman of the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG) and VP of Siltronic, said, “While silicon wafer shipments in the first half of this year are similar to the same period last year, quarterly shipments are on a continuous upward trend.”

All data cited in this press release includes polished silicon wafers (including virgin test wafers and epitaxial silicon wafers) and non-polished silicon wafers produced and shipped by wafer manufacturers.
The Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG) operates as an independently run Special Interest Group within SEMI, comprising SEMI member companies involved in the manufacturing of polycrystalline silicon, monocrystalline silicon, and silicon wafers. The SMG aims to foster collaborative efforts on matters related to the silicon industry, including the development of market intelligence and statistics regarding the silicon industry and the semiconductor market.

BB율은 수주액을 출하액으로 나눈 값으로, BB율이 1.09라는 것은 출하액 100달러 당 수주액이 109달러라는 의미이다. 5월 전공정장비 수주액은 15억 4천만 달러로, 전월 수주액 14억 달러보다 증가했고, 전년도 같은 시기(15년 5월)보다는 15.3% 올랐다. 5월 전공정장비 출하액은 13억 8천만 달러로, 전공정장비 BB율은 1.11를 기록했다(4월 전공정장비 BB율은 1.09). 지난 4월 전공정장비 출하액은 12억 8천만 달러, 전년도 5월 출하액 13억 5천만 달러였다(전공정장비 카테고리는 웨이퍼공정, 마스크/레티클 제조, 웨이퍼 제조 및 팹(fab) 설비를 포함함).

North American semiconductor equipment shipments hit their highest level since February 2011.
SEMI(국제반도체장비재료협회)가 발표한 6월 BB율 보고서에 따르면, 북미반도체장비업체들의 2016년 6월 순수주액(3개월 평균값)은 17억 1천만 달러이며, BB율은 1.00인 것으로 나타났다. BB율은 수주액을 출하액으로 나눈 값으로, BB율이 1.00라는 것은 출하액 100달러 당 수주액이 100달러라는 의미이다. 6월 수주액 17억 1천만 달러는 지난 5월 수주액 17억 5천만 달러와 비교해 2.1% 하락했고, 전년도 6월 수주액 15억 2천만 달러와 비교해서는 12.9% 올랐다. 6월 반도체 장비출하액은 17억 1천만 달러로, 지난 5월 출하액 16억 달러에 비해 7% 증가했고, 지난해 6월 출하액 15억 5천만 달러보다 10.2% 증가했다.
