Revealed by Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Choi Jeong-ho during visit to Seoul National University Intelligent Automotive Research Center

Choi Jeong-ho, the 2nd Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited the 'Intelligent Vehicle Research Center' and the 'Vehicle Dynamics and Control Laboratory' at Seoul National University on the 2nd and was introduced to the current status of research related to autonomous vehicles that the research team is focusing on developing.

At the event, Vice Minister Choi test-drove an autonomous vehicle being developed by Seoul National University and shared his impressions of the visit, stating, “Seoul National University’s vehicle control technology is at a significant level, having been the first domestic university to receive a temporary operating permit and the first in the country to successfully test-drive an autonomous vehicle on a highway.” He further added, “We will actively consider introducing new concepts of transportation services, such as the autonomous taxi service ‘SNUver,’ in the future.”

During a meeting with Seoul National University professors and researchers, Vice Minister Choi Jeong-ho stated, “In a situation where advanced nations such as the U.S. and Europe are vying to showcase cutting-edge autonomous driving technology, Seoul National University researchers are engrossed in independent technology development.He encouraged them by saying, “I deeply appreciate your hard work.”

In addition, stating, “The development of core technologies is absolutely necessary for the autonomous vehicle industry to become a new growth engine in our country,” he promised, “We will actively support it at the government level through institutional improvements, infrastructure construction, and expanded national R&D support.”
