Intersil Launches Security Link over Coax (SLOC) Solution for Wide Range of Digital IP Video Surveillance Applications
New technology capable of converting analog CCTV into network IP surveillance systems
October 11, 2010 – Intersil, a global leader in the design and production of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, announced today the launch of an advanced modem solution designed to simultaneously transmit analog CVBS video and digital IP video over a single coaxial cable. The Intersil Techwell SLOC (Security Link over Coax) solution enables advanced megapixel IP cameras to operate over existing CCTV coaxial cable infrastructure without the need for new line installation or cable modification, thereby saving significant costs and resources.
Furthermore, Intersil Techwell devices enable digital IP cameras to operate over coaxial cable infrastructure without interfering with existing CCTV services. Additionally, embedded analog CVBS video allows for latency-free real-time monitoring and control of digital IP cameras. Surveillance system manufacturers can now produce efficient hybrid surveillance systems that support not only latency-free analog CCTV capabilities but also network IP surveillance.
This solution consists of the TW3801, an SLOC-based camera modem PHY device, and the TW3811, an SLOC-based receiver modem PHY device. The combination of the TW3801 and TW3811, based on Intersil Techwell technology, provides the security surveillance industry with a smooth transition from existing analog systems to IP security systems. SLOC technology utilizes installed coaxial cable infrastructure and enables network IP functions without significant changes to IP camera or DVR (Digital Video Recorder) designs.
The TW3801 and TW3811 are highly integrated modem PHY subsystems featuring an analog front-end (AFE), a digital modem, and two Ethernet Media Independent Interfaces (MIIs). The TW3801 accommodates analog CVBS signals and Ethernet MII signals, and internally combines these two signals into a unique output signal for coaxial cable transmission.
