MOU signed with Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation to establish Home IoT pilot complex for approximately 1,400 households
Connecting wired home network services and various home appliances into an integrated IoT platform

Over 1,400 units of state-of-the-art IoT apartments, where the indoor environment and all home appliances can be controlled via a smartphone application, will be built in the Ogeum district of Seoul.

LG Uplus and the Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation announced on the 22nd that they will build a pilot premium apartment complex equipped with a home IoT platform to upgrade the residential environment.

The two companies held a business agreement signing ceremony at the Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, attended by LG Uplus Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo, IoT Business Division Executive Vice President Ahn Seong-jun, Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation President Byun Chang-heum, and other officials.

This project was established to provide lifestyle convenience services by constructing a pilot premium apartment complex equipped with a home IoT system, by combining the capabilities of LG Uplus, which leads the domestic home IoT market with over 420,000 subscriber households, and the Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation, which possesses know-how in creating eco-friendly urban spaces to stabilize citizens' lives and improve their welfare.

LG Uplus is building an integrated wired and wireless home IoT system for a total of approximately 1,400 households in Complexes 1 and 2 of the Ogeum District Bogeumjari Housing in Seoul, operated by the Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation. In addition to wired home network built-in services provided upon move-in, such as front door security, lighting, and heating/cooling, you can also manage IoT home appliances purchased directly from LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, including TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines, by linking them within the IoT app.

In the pilot complex, the existing wired-based home network has been integrated with wireless-based IoT connectivity, allowing residents to connect not only built-in appliances but also a variety of other household appliances, thereby providing infinite scalability. LG Uplus has established an integrated IoT platform within the Ogeum District public housing complex and provides a dedicated application to facilitate convenient IoT service usage for residents.

It also provides specialized features that allow voice control of IoT-connected home appliances. Going beyond simple power or function control, it enables specific action commands. For example, if you say "Let's clean" to your smartphone, the ventilation fan, air purifier, robot vacuum, and curtains operate simultaneously.

In addition to this, a location-based solution is implemented that switches modes based on the resident's current location. For example, if the user moves beyond a certain distance from home, a "Switching to Away Mode" message appears via smartphone push notification, and the indoor temperature, lighting, and power of home appliances are automatically adjusted. Conversely, as you get closer to home, you can automatically adjust the indoor environment, such as turning on the heating in advance, accompanied by a notification that says, “Switching to indoor mode.”

Specialized services such as voice control and location-based solutions are scheduled to be applied.

LG Uplus plans to take the lead in elevating the domestic residential environment by applying Home IoT to housing projects implemented by the Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation, starting with a pilot complex in the Ogeum district of Seoul.

Byun Chang-heum, President of the Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation (SHUDC), stated, “Through this MOU, SHUDC will play a key role in elevating the domestic residential environment to the next level by expanding the application of the smart home IoT platform to newly constructed apartments.”

Kwon Young-soo, Vice Chairman of LG Uplus, stated, “Starting with the establishment of a pilot complex in the Ogeum district of Seoul, customers in newly built apartment complexes nationwide will be able to use LG Uplus’s ‘impressive’ Home IoT services.” He added, “The convenient experience of customers’ lives transformed by Home IoT leads to customer delight, and LG Uplus will continue its innovation to achieve this.”
