Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced that it is offering the new LT3086 product, which supports a higher temperature range, 'H-grade', in a TSSOP package.

The new LT3086 belongs to Linear’s feature-rich LDO+™ family and offers powerful features not supported by previous linear regulator products. This new 40V, 2.1A low dropout linear regulator (LDO) includes a current monitoring function that allows for external setting of current limits and a temperature monitoring function that allows for external control of thermal limits.

This device also provides a programmable Power Good status flag and cable drop compensation, and facilitates parallel operation. The current reference of the LT308x LDO family provides regulation regardless of the output voltage.

The LT3086 features an input voltage range of 1.4V to 40V. The output voltage can be programmed from 0.4V to 32V with a single resistor, and the dropout voltage is only 330mV at 2.1A. The LT3086 achieves 0.1% line and load regulation regardless of output voltage. The trimmed precision 50µA current reference is ±1% accurate, providing output voltage precision of less than ±2% across the entire line, load, and temperature range. Thanks to the unity-gain voltage follower architecture of this device, output voltage regulation, bandwidth, transient response, and noise (40µVRMS) are maintained regardless of the output voltage.

Because the LT3086 employs unique internal circuitry, there is no need for separate external ballast resistors when multiple LT3086s are connected in parallel for larger load currents and thermal dissipation. Programmable cable drop compensation eliminates regulation errors caused by line drops to the load. In addition to a Power Good status flag supporting a programmable threshold, output current and temperature monitoring functions provide system monitoring and diagnostic/debug capabilities. The internal fault circuitry includes thermal shutdown and current limiting upon foldback. Both thermal and current limits are externally programmable. The new product's reverse-battery and reverse-current protection further enhances the robustness of the final design.

The output-adjustable LT3086HFE version is available in a thermally enhanced TSSOP surface-mount package and is specialized for an operating temperature range of –40°C to 150°C.
