Signing of MOU for Korea's Smart Manufacturing Innovation

Dassault Systèmes Korea, the Korea Smart Manufacturing Industry Association, and 11 major domestic universities signed an agreement for "Korea Smart Manufacturing Innovation" at the Shilla Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 5th.

Through this agreement, Dassault Systèmes plans to take the lead in fostering talent aligned with the direction of manufacturing innovation required by Korean educational institutions and companies in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and in creating various industry-academia technology cooperation models.

At the signing ceremony, Kim Tae-hwan, Chairman of the Korea Smart Manufacturing Industry Association, delivered a keynote speech on the theme of "Smart Manufacturing Innovation Strategy for the Leap Forward of the Korean Manufacturing Industry." Additionally, Kris Kosmala, Head of Asia Pacific at Dassault Systèmes QUINTIQ, continued the speech on various success stories and technological trends under the theme of "Smart Manufacturing of the Future."

The universities participating in this agreement ceremony are a total of 11 universities, including Geoje University, Konyang University, Kyungpook National University, Kyungwoon University, Keimyung University, Kookmin University, Dongmyung University, Busan University of Foreign Studies, Sun Moon University, Chung-Ang University, and Hanyang University (in alphabetical order). Dassault Systèmes plans to provide education and technical support for talent development at these universities together with its specialized partners, such as SolidENG and HanaTS.

Kim Tae-hwan, Chairman of the Korea Smart Manufacturing Industry Association, said, “For Korea, where manufacturing accounts for a large portion of the economy, the convergence of IT technology and manufacturing to lead the global trend of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is very important,” adding, “I expect that through this agreement with Dassault Systèmes, which supplies integrated solutions for the Fourth Industrial Revolution to the world, our companies and educational institutions will achieve another ‘manufacturing renaissance.’”

Cho Young-bin, CEO of Dassault Systèmes Korea, said, “While Korea’s manufacturing infrastructure is world-class, our response to smart manufacturing is still somewhat slow.” He added, “I have been contemplating how our manufacturing companies can continue to maintain global competitiveness, and I hope that today’s signing ceremony will be a small but significant first step in initiating a change that will allow Korea to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
