A new story starting 25 years after Gears of War 3 with new protagonists

Microsoft Korea (CEO Koh Soon-dong) announced that Gears of War 4 will be released simultaneously worldwide as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Gears of War 4 will be released on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC versions, and will support Korean subtitles.

Gears of War 4, an action TPS game developed by The Coalition, picks up 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3 with a new story starting with JD Fenix and the next generation of protagonists. Gears of War 4 will feature the most stunning visual effects ever seen in the Gears of War series, a new hero, new enemies, and new mystery elements, as well as the intense and brutal action signature of Gears, a tense campaign, genre-defining multiplayer, and innovative co-op.

Microsoft emphasized that The Coalition pushed the limits by using Unreal Engine 4 and DirectX12 to create the most technically advanced Gears game that would satisfy fans.

Microsoft Korea has highlighted Gears of War 4's cooperative play and multiplayer. Xbox One and Windows 10 users can play cooperatively in all game modes, including campaign mode, horde mode, and co-op mode. Multiplayer can be enjoyed on private media, and 60-frame multiplayer running on dedicated servers and co-op campaign play through local split screen are possible. Additionally, Gears of War 4’s improved ranking system matches users of similar skill levels, enhancing the multiplayer battle experience in Gears of War 4. Modes such as Dodgeball, Highland Capture, and Arms Race have also been added to provide a variety of multiplayer battles with differentiated rules and developments.

“Gears of War 4 is the best game to enjoy with friends,” said Woo Jong-woo, managing director of Microsoft Korea’s Consumer Channel Group. “In particular, the best survival mode, Horde Mode, has a new system where players can choose from five roles—Soldier, Sniper, Scout, Heavy, and Engineer—to leverage their strengths and strengthen teamwork. Various multiplayer modes and cross-play between Xbox One and Windows 10 users will double the enjoyment of the game.” He added, “We hope you’ll show lots of support for Gears of War 4, which will be led by new protagonists.”

Gears of War 4 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, which means that if you purchase Gears of War 4 digitally, you’ll be able to play it on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. Gears of War 4 will launch with an estimated retail price of $49.99, with the Ultimate Edition, which includes the Gears of War 4 Season Pass, priced at $79.99. The Season Pass includes the Vintage VIP Pack, which includes a Vintage JD character skin and two Vintage weapon skins, 24 additional DLC maps delivered two per month for one year, and a Developer Playlist that allows you to play new maps, modes, and features before launch. Gears of War 4 is available for purchase at online and offline retailers, including the Windows Store.

In addition, if you purchase Gears of War 4, you will be gifted a digital version code for the Xbox 360 Gears of War Collection, which includes four games including Gears of War 1-3 and Gears of War Judgment, that can be played on Xbox One with backward compatibility. The Xbox 360 Gears of War Collection will be granted sequentially only to users who play before December 31st when purchasing the digital version of Gears of War 4, and the disc version will be sold with a digital version prepaid code included.
