– STMicroelectronics ( www.st.com , Country Manager for Korea Sung-keun Kang), the No. 1 supplier of MEMS for consumer electronics and portable applications, has launched high-performance, low-power stereo microphones that provide enhanced sound quality and reliability while reducing size and cost. ST’s innovative MEMS microphones are targeting existing and new audio applications in various fields, such as mobile phones, PMPs, game consoles, digital cameras, security systems, learning devices, and hearing aids, where small size, high sound quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness are critical.
ST’s MP45DT01 digital-output stereo microphone significantly improves sound quality by providing omni-directional sensitivity that detects and filters out background noise. Its importance is growing as the use of audio input devices increases in noisy and uncontrollable environments, and sound quality can be further enhanced by integrating multiple microphones into a single device. The small form factor and superior characteristics of ST MEMS microphones enable the configuration of such microphone arrays.
Because MEMS microphones utilize stable, mass-production silicon manufacturing processes, they not only match the price range of traditional ECM (electret condenser microphones) but also boast exceptional reliability and robustness. ST's new microphones employ OMRON's sensor technology, which is inherently insensitive to mechanical vibrations, temperature variations, and EMI (electromagnetic interference). These capabilities are critical for devices such as mobile phones that feature audio inputs.
ST is the only company in the industry with the capability to manage the entire supply chain and possesses advanced MEMS production facilities, making it cost-competitive.
