Cypress Korea (Country Manager Young-do Lim, www.cypress.com ) announced the release of the new CapSense® capacitive touch-sensing controller, which enables designers to achieve mechanical button replacement (MBR) without having to learn firmware writing or the use of new software tools.

The new CapSense Express™ device utilizes Cypress’s innovative SmartSense™ auto-tuning algorithm, which eliminates the need for system tuning. The accompanying design toolbox from Cypress provides detailed resources to ensure optimal interface performance, while advanced system debugging capabilities enable direct adoption of designs into production for rapid time-to-market. Additionally, the new controller delivers powerful touch-sensing capabilities with very low power consumption to extend battery life in various handheld products, making it suitable for consumer, telecommunications, home appliance, lighting, industrial, and medical applications.

The hardware-configurable CY8CMBR2044 CapSense Express Mechanical Button Replacement controller operates at 1.7–5.5V and provides overall low power consumption with a supply current of 15 uA in low-run mode per button and an industry-leading 100 nA sleep current. This device operates stably even under the harshest sensing conditions, and Cypress's patented CSD (CapSense Sigma Delta) sensing method ensures excellent immunity to conducting and emitting noise.
