Freescale Expands Adoption of PowerQUICC II Pro Architecture in Cost-Sensitive Networking and Industrial Applications with New Processors
MPC830x Portfolio, Providing Up to 800 MIPS Performance, Low Power Consumption, and Enhanced Connectivity at a Resale Price of Under $10. Freescale Semiconductor introduces a new portfolio of cost-effective PowerQUICC II® Pro processors with excellent power-to-performance ratio and upgraded interconnect technology.
The new MPC830x communications processor portfolio, available at resale prices under $10, includes the MPC8308, MPC8309, and MPC8306/8306S, all of which provide upgraded high-speed interconnects, enabling customers to lower Bill of Material (BOM) costs in target applications such as cards, industrial applications, WLAN access points, intelligent NIC equipment, smart energy gateways, and general-purpose control functions.
Dhiraj Handa, General Manager and Director of the Customer Business Unit at Freescale Networking and Multimedia Group, stated, “The MPC830x portfolio targets new and existing customers seeking high integration, scalable performance, and low power for entry-level networking, industrial control, or factory automation applications. Code compatibility with existing PowerQUICC I and II products, the strengths of upgraded peripherals, and aggressive price-performance are hallmarks of this new product portfolio.”
All products in the MPC830x portfolio are equipped with the e300c3 (based on MPC603e), which is implemented with Power Architecture® technology including a 16KB L1 instruction and data cache, an IEEE 754 double-precision floating-point unit, a dual integer unit, and an on-chip Memory Management Unit (MMU). The MPC8306/09 device provides up to 800 MIPS of performance along with high integration, low power consumption, fanless, “eco-friendly,” and low-cost design.
The MPC830x communications processor portfolio was designed at Freescale's design center in India using advanced SoC design methodologies and technologies to achieve fast cycle times from product definition to silicon certification.
