Western Digital Unveils New Enterprise-Class Products with Groundbreaking Performance and Capacity
Adopting next-generation storage solutions to address cloud and hyperscale data workloads

Western Digital has unveiled three new data center SSDs and HDDs based on next-generation storage solutions to address the increasing enterprise, cloud, and hyperscale data workloads.

The newly introduced products are the HGST Ultrastar SN200 SSD, Ultrastar SS200 SSD, and Ultrastar He12 HDD. The HGST Ultrastar SN200 SSD series is an NVMe PCIe SSD that offers class-leading random read performance of up to 1.2 million IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second). The Ultrastar SS200 SSD is the fastest and highest-capacity SAS SSD within the HGST brand.

The Ultrastar He12 HDD is a fourth-generation helium-based enterprise-class 12TB HDD featuring Western Digital's patented HelioSeal technology, and the He12 platform is set to expand to 14TB in the future through Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) technology.

The Ultrastar SN200 NVMe SSD series and Ultrastar SS200 SAS SSD are scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2017, and the Ultrastar He12 in the first half of 2017. In addition, the 14TB He12 HDD with SMR technology will be available on the market around mid-2017.

The Ultrastar SN200 SSD series is the largest capacity NVMe PCIe SSD currently available in a 2.5-inch drive form factor and HH-HL (half-height, half-length) size. Based on Western Digital's latest memory technology, sequential read performance has improved by up to 100% and random read performance by up to 61% compared to the previous generation product, the Ultrastar SN150 SSD.

Available in capacities ranging from 800GB to 7.68TB, it features excellent Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities and is optimized for data-intensive cloud and hyperscale environments that require real-time processing of massive amounts of data or immediate response times, such as e-commerce, search engines, and social networks.

The Ultrastar SS200 SSD provides ample capacity, low-latency performance, and outstanding durability to enable data center managers to process the recent surge in data more efficiently. Furthermore, the introduction of the Ultrastar SS200 SSD, boasting the highest speed and capacity within the HGST brand, reduces the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Offering up to 7.68TB of capacity, it expands the utilization of storage arrays requiring dual-port designs, as well as hyperconverged and software-defined architectures, through its SAS interface.

The enterprise-grade Ultrastar SS200 SSD is available in two classes of 1 or 3 DWPD (Day write per day) to meet the durability requirements of corporate customers. Optimized for various data-intensive enterprise and cloud-based applications using the latest NAND management technology, this product provides sequential reads of up to 1,800 MB/s and random reads of up to 250,000 4KiB IOPS, while maintaining sequential writes of up to 1,000 MB/s and random writes of up to 86,000 4KiB IOPS.

The Ultrastar SS200 utilizes Western Digital's proprietary 'Guardian Technology' platform to enhance durability and reliability, preventing data loss and ensuring excellent QoS capabilities.
