National Semiconductor Launches Highest Precision Linear RMS RF Power Detector for 3G/4G Handsets
National Semiconductor Korea (CEO: Chung-Won Choi, NYSE:NSM) has launched a new linear Root-Mean-Square (RMS) radio frequency (RF) power detector. The PowerWise® LMH2120 extends the radio reception range of 3G and 4G mobile handsets and extends battery life. It also provides the industry's highest precision along with a dynamic range of up to 40 dB.
When using National’s LMH2120 linear RMS RF power detector, it is possible to accurately measure RF power amplifiers (PAs) used to control transmission power and block interference from ambient signals. Additionally, the LMH2120 provides a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C and minimizes guard bands by having a temperature variation of only +/- 0.5 dB across a wide dynamic range of 40 dB at 1900 MHz. These capabilities improve the coverage and quality of services, such as data rates, when performing high-capacity uplinks over longer distances from the transmitting tower.
The performance of the LMH2120 is consistently maintained across various modulation structures used in multimode handsets and data cards utilizing CDMA, W-CDMA, UMTS, LTE, GSM, and GPRS cellular standards. In other words, because it provides modulation-independent measurements of less than 0.3 dB, there is no need to use extensive lookup tables for accuracy. Additionally, the LMH2120 features a built-in shutdown pin to reduce power consumption between measurements, effectively extending handset battery life.
