CC8521 and CC8531 solutions providing uncompressed wireless audio performance via USB ports for various consumer applications such as PCs, TVs, and game consoles

TI Korea ( www.ti.com/ww/kr ) October 27, 2011 – TI, an industry leader in high-density wireless connectivity and wireless audio solutions, announced two System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for the PurePath™ wireless audio family, which provide uncompressed CD-quality wireless multi-channel and multi-point audio streaming performance for consumer applications with USB ports, such as PCs, TVs, set-top boxes, and game consoles. The new single-chip CC8521 and CC8531 solutions include USB audio support for all major operating systems and can support streaming to up to four audio channels simultaneously from a single USB audio source. Along with the corresponding USB dongle reference design, the new PurePath wireless products enable developers to create low-cost, compact USB dongles for wireless audio applications without requiring software development or detailed knowledge of USB protocols. The CC8521 and CC8531 SoC solutions were demonstrated at the TI booth (#847) at AES New York, held from October 20 to 23, 2011.

The CC8521 and CC8531 are currently available through TI and its authorized distributors. The CC8521 and CC8531 are provided in ROHS-compliant 6mm x 6mm QFN-40 packages, with prices starting at $4.25 for 1,000-unit quantities. The CC85X1USB-RD USB dongle reference design is available for free on TI's website.

The CC85XXDK development kit provides all the hardware and software necessary to evaluate the CC8521 and CC8531. This kit is available on TI's e-store for $299. In addition, the CC85XXDK-HEADSET development kit is also available on TI's e-store for $149 and comes with a free reference design for a wireless headset.
