LG Uplus Expands LTE-Based Wi-Fi Service in Subways
Published2017.02.08 09:00LG Uplus announced that it is providing the nation's first LTE-based Wi-Fi service that allows users to access data for free on smartphones on moving subways nationwide.
Currently, WiBro-based Wi-Fi service is provided in most subway sections, and LTE Wi-Fi equipment is installed only in some carriages.
Starting from the Lunar New Year holiday last month, the installation of LTE-supporting Wi-Fi equipment was completed in the carriages of Seoul Subway Lines 1 through 8 and the Airport Railroad, as well as Busan Subway Lines 1 through 4, and the service is now being provided.
LG Uplus plans to add approximately 30,000 base stations within the year and complete equipment installation for Seoul Subway Line 9, the metropolitan area, Daegu, Gwangju, and Daejeon subways by the end of February, with plans to provide LTE-based Wi-Fi services on subways nationwide starting March 3.

KT Successfully Demonstrates First NB-IoT Service on LTE Network
KT announced on the 20th that it had demonstrated various Internet of Things services applying NB-IoT technology on LTE commercial networks for the first time in the world, in collaboration with government agencies and domestic and international partners including the Daejeon Metropolitan City, Nokia, Colorong Industries Co., Ltd. FnC Division, and Intel. KT developed an 'IoT Safety Jacket (prototype)' in cooperation with Colorong Sports, an outdoor brand of Colorong Industries Co., Ltd. FnC Division, by mounting Intel's NB-IoT module on a hiking jacket, and demonstrated that Internet of Things services are possible with low power consumption and low data capacity even in emergency situations and on hiking trails with weak communication signal strength.

LG U+ Launches Portable LTE Router
LG유플러스는 초소형, 초경량으로 모바일 핫스팟이 가능한 LTE 라우터 ‘U+ myFi’를 출시했다고 밝혔다. U+ myFi는 전국 어디서나 LTE 신호를 받아 무선인터넷(WiFi) 신호로 바꿔주는 휴대형 라우터다. 국내 출시된 LTE 라우터 중 가장 가벼운 24g의 무게를 자랑한다.
