SiRFprimaII™ Platform Launch to Support Premium Navigation and Infotainment Systems
Innovative platform supporting global satellite systems, superior wireless connectivity, and rich visualization
November 2, 2011 – CSR announced today the launch of the SiRFprimaII automotive infotainment platform, a next-generation solution that will drive innovation in in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems providing internet connectivity and location-awareness capabilities. The SiRFprimaII platform enables IVI manufacturers to reduce product development and manufacturing costs as well as bill of materials (BOM) expenses, while delivering premium navigation-infotainment system functionality to the automotive market.

Kanwar Chadha, CMO of CSR and founder of SiRF, stated, "CSR's vision is to deliver an entirely new navigation user experience to the automotive market, including the aftermarket. The SiRFprimaII platform represents an innovative leap forward, supporting global navigation satellite systems, superior connectivity, and next-generation applications such as augmented reality. Together with the SiRFprimaII platform being introduced today, the SiRFstarV™ and SiRFusion™ solutions launched in the mobile device market will further enhance users' location-based technology experience."
The SiRFprimaII platform includes the SiRFprimaII SoC and TriG RF multi-GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) radio, capable of supporting all global navigation satellite systems worldwide. As part of this system platform strategy, CSR provides comprehensive solutions integrating diverse capabilities, delivering navigation and modern, intuitive infotainment experiences.
This comprehensive platform solution combines the CSR SiRFprimaII SoC and TriG RF with CSR8311™ Bluetooth®, CSR6031™ Wi-Fi® solutions, and CSR Synergy™ software. Integrated software forming the core of the touchscreen-based system enables drivers to drive with confidence while passengers can enjoy DVD, video content, and high-fidelity (hi-fi) stereo sound through speakers or wireless headsets. Additionally, all functions can be controlled via remote control, and internet access is available through Wi-Fi.
Charlie Lesko, General Manager of CSR's Automotive Division, stated, "The second-generation SiRFprimaII SoC and the new TriG RF front-end form the core of an integrated hardware and software platform solution, representing CSR's core competencies in location-based services, network connectivity, and multimedia technology. Beyond this, CSR fulfills automotive customers' requirements for technology, performance, and quality. Through CSR's comprehensive platform reference design, customers can reduce the time and cost involved in product development, rapidly bringing innovative automotive navigation and infotainment systems to market so that key customers can access the system anywhere."
Additionally, the CSR platform solution benefits from support of all CSR location solutions, wireless network and audio enhancement software, including aptX® high-fidelity wireless audio technology, CVC™ noise cancellation and acoustic echo cancellation, SiRF SiRFInstantFix®, and SiRFDRive® location advances.
SiRFprimaII SoC
The CSR SiRFprimaII SoC, employing 40nm CMOS process technology, combines a multi-GNSS baseband location processor, DDR3 and NAND flash memory controllers, analog power management functions, audio codec, hardware supporting 1080p full HD multimedia decoding, 3D graphics accelerator, LCD touchscreen controller supporting 1280x720 resolution, and PHY/UART/GPIO interfaces in a single package.
A powerful ARM Cortex™-A9 application processor operating at speeds up to 1GHz processes more than twice the information of previous SiRFprima devices while delivering a variety of modern navigation, entertainment, communication, and information applications. The SiRFprimaII SoC boasts graphics and multimedia acceleration performance 3-4 times stronger than the first generation, delivering smooth operation that delights users and enabling emerging technologies such as augmented reality.
TriG RF Multi-GNSS Radio
The TriG RF front-end global navigation satellite system (GNSS) radio, using 40nm CMOS process technology, is an advanced multi-GNSS solution providing location-based and navigation technology to the SiRFprimaII and other CSR automotive navigation SoCs. It supports all currently planned global navigation satellite systems, including GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and Compass satellites. The sophisticated GNSS positioning technology of the TriG RF radio leverages these satellite systems to enhance location availability and accuracy at low cost.
