- Obtained ISL78200 and AEC-Q100 certifications
- Boost mode switching possible at low input voltage
November 2, 2011 – Intersil, a global leader in the design and production of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, announced today the release of a step-down regulator providing 2.5A of output current. The product automatically adjusts the input voltage to maintain regulation.
Losses in regulation due to decreasing input voltage are a common problem in automotive applications. Input voltage dropout, known as "cold crank," typically occurs when a vehicle starts in cold conditions, but it can now also occur during vehicle starting and stopping.
The ISL78200 is a synchronous buck/pre-boost IC that automatically activates the pre-boost stage when output regulation needs to be maintained. Additionally, the product integrates a lower MOSFET driver along with a 90 milliohm (mΩ) upper MOSFET. The ISL78200 provides a wide input voltage range from 3V to 40V while supporting a fixed 5V output of 2.5A at 85°C without a separate heatsink. With the combination of step-down regulation with a low 180µA quiescent current and input voltage pre-boosting, the product is highly ideal for various automotive power applications.
The ISL78025, which is similar in performance to the ISL78200 but excludes the pre-boost function, is also scheduled to be introduced. Like the ISL78200, the product provides a maximum output of 2.5A at 85 degrees Celsius and can be used for general purposes in power regulation and 24V bus power applications. Both products have obtained AEC-Q100 and TS16949 certifications.
