SK Telecom Showcases Technologies to Lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution at MWC
Published2017.02.27 12:25SK Telecom has established a corporate exhibition pavilion in Hall 3, located at the center of the MWC exhibition space, and is showcasing services in the 5G and AI domains under the theme "Connect Everything."
SK Telecom is presenting ▲its next-generation AI robot ▲AI-linked robots from external developers ▲'Nugu' linked with Watson-based AI 'April' and other offerings.
The next-generation AI robot showcased by SK Telecom is a desktop device that combines voice recognition technology with image recognition technology.
When a user calls out to the device, the head display portion rotates toward the user and then continues to follow the user. With motion recognition functionality applied, users can hold out their palm to signal 'stop' and halt operation during a call.
SK Telecom also presented prototype robots from external developers linked with artificial intelligence 'Nugu.' ▲Petbots that follow users like pets ▲Commerce bots with enhanced payment functionality and others demonstrate AI technological capabilities.
SK Telecom is also integrating AI technology into smart homes, presenting how AI can be utilized in home IoT. Exhibition visitors can experience a lifestyle in which household devices are controlled by voice.
Additionally, SK Telecom has highlighted 5G services including '360 Live VR,' ultra-high-definition real-time 360-degree VR, and the connected car 'T5.' '360 Live VR' can broadcast 360 degrees in all directions in UHD high definition, and when combined with a head-mounted display device (HMD), it conveys to viewers the sensation of being at the actual location.
In '360 Live VR,' various images can be viewed according to motion sensors in the HMD. While watching the same live broadcast, each viewer sees different images simultaneously depending on the direction they are facing, and as they turn their head, the image and sound adjust accordingly.
The 5G-based connected car 'T5' was previously unveiled by SK Telecom together with BMW Korea in November last year. 'T5' can transmit and receive data at speeds exceeding 20Gbps and communicate with base stations in units of one-thousandth of a second. Additionally, on the 7th, it successfully demonstrated speeds of 3.68Gbps in a driving environment at 170Km/h.

SK Telecom to showcase IoT and smart home technologies with startups at MWC
SK Telecom announced that it will jointly exhibit with 8 startups and small-to-medium enterprises that possess innovative technologies in the New ICT sector including IoT, smart home, and VR at MWC 2017. SK Telecom had previously displayed startup items as a separate section within its exhibition booth until last year, but starting this year, it is eliminating the division within the booth and jointly exhibiting items from both SK Telecom and startups according to the exhibition themes such as IoT and smart home. The company stated this is to jointly establish a New ICT ecosystem and promote global joint expansion. The number of startups participating jointly has also increased to 8 companies.

SK Telecom Partners with Nokia for Quantum Cryptography at MWC
SK Telecom has signed a business cooperation agreement with Nokia on quantum key distribution at the 'Mobile World Congress 2017' held in Barcelona, Spain on the 27th. Quantum key distribution is a communication security system that utilizes cryptographic technology based on quantum, a unit smaller than molecules. Through this agreement, SK Telecom and Nokia will jointly develop a quantum transmission system based on SK Telecom's quantum cryptography technology by the second half of this year, and plan to commercialize it by integrating it into Nokia's next-generation optical transmission equipment.

SK Telecom Accelerates 5G Era with LTE-A Pro Technology
SK Telecom announced on the 27th that it successfully tested LTE-A Pro technology in a commercial network. At MWC 2017, SK Telecom will jointly demonstrate ▲ 5-band CA technology and ▲ 3-band CA technology with 4x4 MIMO with Samsung Electronics, and ▲ 1Gbps unlicensed spectrum aggregation technology with Ericsson, respectively.
