TI Launches 36V Operational Amplifier for Automotive Market

Offering a micro package option 50% smaller than competing products

TI Korea ( www.ti.com/ww/kr ) September 28, 2011 – TI has released a 36V single-supply low-noise operational amplifier for automotive applications capable of operating over a supply range of +2.7V to +36V. The OPA171-Q1 delivers high-precision performance at a low-power cost-effective price. This device is 50% smaller than currently available competitor products and is also available in an automotive-certified SOT-553 micropackage to reduce board space in automotive applications such as tracking amplifiers and transducer amplifiers for hybrid or electric vehicles and power modules. The OPA171-Q1 is designed to enhance overall system design stability, such as the ability to process input signals above the supply rail without output phase inversion. The OPA171-Q1 remains stable even when a capacitive load of up to 300pF is applied, or when the input is operated within the negative rail of 100mV or less or the top rail of 2V during normal operation.

• A wide input voltage range of +2.7V to +36V or ±1.35V to ±18V supports accurate low-voltage sensor input while providing enhanced design flexibility for various supply rails.
• The OPA171-Q1 provides precision performance such as a low offset of up to 1.8mV, a typical temperature drift of 0.3µV/C, and a wide gain bandwidth of 3MHz.
• Low quiescent current of 475µA supports efficient battery-powered operation
• The SOT-553 micropackage option allows designers to develop more compact modules by using 50% less board space compared to competing operational amplifiers.

The OPA171-Q1 is currently available through TI and its authorized distributors. It is available in a 5-pin SOT-23 package and is automotive-grade certified. The price of the OPA171-Q1 is $0.47 per unit in 1,000-unit quantities. The SOT-553 micro package option is also eligible for automotive grade certification. In addition, the OPA171-Q1 is included in a family of automotive grade 1-, 2-, and 4-channel devices (OPA171, OPA2171, OPA4171).
