Converged services including 5G test network to be applied within Phoenix PyeongChang facilities

KT has signed an MOU for business cooperation at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics with 'Phoenix Central PyeongChang,' which operates 'Phoenix PyeongChang.' The agreement was reached to implement converged services of wired and wireless communication facilities including a 5G test network within Phoenix.



Phoenix is one of the major official venues of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, where four snowboarding events (slopestyle, halfpipe, parallel giant slalom, and slopestyle) and five freestyle skiing events (moguls, aerials, cross, halfpipe, and slopestyle) will be held.

Going forward, both companies plan to conduct active joint marketing in their respective fields and actively leverage each other's resources to ensure successful operation of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and showcase 5G for the first time in the world. In December, just before the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, both parties plan to conduct joint promotions targeting the general public.

Kim Hyung-jun, Executive Director of KT's PyeongChang Winter Olympics Promotion Division, stated, "Through cooperation with 'Phoenix PyeongChang,' one of the key venues of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, KT's planned world-first 5G pilot service seems one step closer." He added, "We hope that 5G can provide something special to all Olympic athletes and visitors from around the world who visit Phoenix PyeongChang."
