TI's ADC Drivers Set New Standards for Power and Performance to Increase Accuracy and Battery Life
Driver amplifier providing optimal power consumption, bandwidth, slew rate, total harmonic distortion, and precision characteristics
TI Korea ( www.ti.com/ww/kr ) November 8, 2011 – TI has expanded its portfolio of general-purpose, low-power, rail-to-rail output operational amplifiers by launching new single and dual ADC drivers that deliver the best performance-to-power ratio. The OPAx836 operational amplifier consumes 33% less power than comparable solutions while providing more than double the bandwidth, a 15x faster slew rate, 40x improved Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), and 75% higher precision. Steve Anderson, Senior Vice President of TI’s High Performance Analog Business Unit, stated, “Until now, customers designing portable industrial measurement devices have been limited by operational amplifier performance when designing 12-bit, 14-bit, and 16-bit precision SAR and delta-sigma ADCs for high-precision applications such as ultrasonic meters, smart pumps, and power quality meters.” He added, “The OPAx386 operational amplifier provides the industry’s best performance-to-power ratio, enabling customers to drive data converters to performance on the datasheet and deliver ultra-low power consumption characteristics.” “These ADC drivers allow developers to increase accuracy while extending the battery life of portable industrial and medical devices,” he said.
The OPAx835 ADC driver is also available for customers requiring lower power for battery-powered consumer electronics such as cameras, laptops, and mobile phones. The OPAx835 operational amplifier consumes 60% less power than competing products while still providing the best performance-to-power ratio. Key Features and Advantages of the OPAx836 ADC Driver
• Lowest Power Consumption: Consumes 1mA of power per channel to extend battery life in portable industrial, consumer, and medical applications, and provides the 205MHz bandwidth required to drive low-power SAR and delta-sigma ADCs such as the ADS7945 and National's ADC128S102.
• Maximum Performance: Achieves best-in-class linearity, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), best-in-class SFDR (Spurious-Free Dynamic Range), enhanced sensitivity, and data converter performance by providing a bandwidth of 205 MHz with a slew rate of 560 V/μs, THD of 130 dBc, and noise characteristics of 4.6 nV/rt Hz.
• High Precision: Provides a typical input-offset voltage of 0.065 μV and a drift characteristic of 1.1 mV/°C for accurate measurements.
• Smallest Package: The ultra-small 2mm x 2mm WQFN package with integrated gain setting registers reduces board space by up to 75% compared to competitors.
