KT,"Now we're starting collaboration with 7 startups"
Published2017.03.16 23:11The Biz Collaboration Program connects departments capable of joint business projects on a 1:1 basis from the idea proposal stage. Selected startups can receive support of up to 70 million won per company for research and development, patent applications, prototype manufacturing, and marketing and promotional expenses.
The final 7 startups selected are 'NPCore' for malware detection and blocking solutions, 'Kiworks' specializing in video processing, 'Seokcheon Information Communication' for IoT wired and wireless communication device solutions, 'GDS Consulting Group' for data analysis services, 'VirtualLive' for facial recognition solutions, 'Science Farm' for smart farm solutions, and 'Geo-IT' for health bike development.
Among these, 'VirtualLive' will develop new attractions utilizing facial recognition and showcase them at 'K-live', KT's dedicated hologram venue, contributing to the spread of Korean Wave content. Additionally, NPCore will participate in integrated security, and Science Farm will participate in the smart farm sector's new business ventures, respectively, and will launch joint products within the year after undergoing commercialization processes.
KT has implemented 'speed dating' where KT executives immediately decide on commercialization promotion when startups propose ideas and technologies on-site. Among them, 'PowerVoice', a speaker recognition solution developer, has pursued cooperative initiatives with startups, including launching KT authentication apps.
Go Yun-jeon, Senior Managing Director of KT's Future Business Development Division, said, "We are utilizing the Biz Collaboration Program as an opportunity to discover future new businesses and achieve mutual growth," and added, "Through continuous joint commercialization, we will present a leading model of open innovation."

Following a vision announcement two years ago to showcase the world's first 5G trial service at the PyeongChang Olympics, KT held a press briefing on the 14th (Tuesday) at PyeongChang Alpensia Resort. The event began with a congratulatory video message from the organizing committee chairman and proceeded with demonstrations of autonomous driving 5G buses and drone delivery services, a 'VR Walkthrough' experience of the Olympic torch relay in virtual reality, and the public opening of the PyeongChang 5G Center showcasing four immersive services. The four immersive services are Sync View, Interactive Time Slice, 360° VR Live, and Omni Point View.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
