Altera Delivers Industry's First FPGA-Based Serial RapidIO Gen2 Solution

– Next-generation wireless base station implementation possible
Successful Interoperability with IDT's Serial RapidIO Gen2 Switch

HONG KONG, September 27, 2011 — Altera (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced the industry's first Serial Rapid IO® Gen2 FPGA-based solution that enables increased bandwidth and link flexibility in next-generation 3G and 4G wireless base stations. Altera has successfully demonstrated interoperability of its Rapid IO MegaCore® Function IP core, based on Stratix® IV GX FPGAs, with Integrated Device Technology's (IDT) Serial Rapid IO® Gen 2 switch. Altera's proven Serial Rapid IO Gen2 solution provides a packet-based interconnect up to 20 Gbaud for connecting wireless cards, host processors, and digital signal processors in high-performance communications systems, thereby increasing system bandwidth.

Altera has worked closely with IDT to achieve interoperability of its Serial Rapid IO Gen2 IP core with IDT's 80HCPS1848 switch in x1 and x4 configurations from 5 Gbaud to 20 Gbaud. Providing this proven Serial Rapid IO Gen2 solution enables customers in the wireless market to design and implement advanced, high-performance systems with confidence. IDT offers a comprehensive range of high-performance, low-power, low-latency Serial RapidIO solutions and is the only company to offer Serial RapidIO Gen2 switch products.
