TI Launches Sitara™ AM335x ARM® High Performance Microprocessor, Industry's First $5 ARM® Cortex™-A8 Device
Launch of a high-performance device that maintains existing performance levels while having the lowest price point among ARM series devices.

Six types of the TI AM335x series (AM3353, 3354, 3356, 3357, 3358, 3359) were released first.

Microprocessors enable portable, pocket-sized, fanless applications by providing low power consumption, extended battery life, and reduced heat generation. By offering developers high performance on a single chip, along with advanced 3D graphics capabilities, touch screen controllers, and advanced peripherals, they can reduce PCB (Printed Circuit Board) space and complexity and save up to $40 in BOM (Bill of Material) costs for smaller applications such as portable navigation, portable gaming consoles, educational devices, and home/building automation.

The AM335x ARM Cortex-A8 microprocessor provides a variety of robust development tools. Developers can develop quickly and easily using the BeagleBone, the latest open-source hardware platform available for $89 through the BeagleBoard.org community. Designers can also use the fully functional AM335x Evaluation Module (EVM), which features a 7-inch LCD touchscreen and access to all peripherals, for $995. The EVM incorporates TI's WL1271 single-chip 802.11b/g/n + Bluetooth® technology into a widely used module and is the first general-purpose platform to support Wi-Fi Direct™. By integrating the AM335x ARM Cortex-A8 microprocessor with the proven WL1271 solution, it is possible to provide a high-performance wireless connectivity platform at a very low cost.
BeagleBone, software that supports popular operating systems and microcontroller-like programming, and the full-featured EVM are provided along with major software solutions:
