Analog Devices Launches High-Speed A/D Converter Featuring More Channels, Lower Power Consumption, and a Smaller Package
Highly Integrated Octal and Quad ADCs Targeting Aggressive Medical Imaging and Communications Applications
November 16, 2011 – Analog Devices ( www.analog.com ), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors and a leader in the worldwide data converter market, announced today the addition of four high-speed A/D data converters (ADCs) to its industry-leading data converter product portfolio. Featuring high channel density, lower power consumption, and small package sizes, these new octal (two models) and quad (two models) channel converters are suitable for medical imaging and communications applications where greater design flexibility and lower data conversion costs per channel are critical.
The AD9257 14-bit and AD9637 12-bit octal A/D converters each integrate eight A/D converters into a single package and consume 40% less power per channel compared to other standalone octal converters. Along with this, Analog Devices also introduced the AD9253 14-bit and AD9633 12-bit quad A/D converters in 48-lead Chip Scale Packages (CSPs), which are 10% smaller than competitor components.
Data conversion in the medical imaging sector
The newly introduced converter products all support high-channel-integration Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems and medical ultrasound devices, as well as advanced imaging applications such as industrial imaging inspection systems and non-destructive ultrasound devices. The AD9253 14-bit and AD9633 12-bit quad A/D converters are supplied in non-magnetic packages and can be safely used within the magnetic field of an MRI system. Therefore, these converters can be placed closer to the main signal, which allows for higher image resolution and processing performance while reducing the overall number of components.
Complementary components for these high-speed converters include the AD8334 quad, aimed at ultrasonic applications, and the ultra-low noise Variable Gain Amplifier (VGA).
Data conversion in the telecommunications sector
The newly introduced octal and quad A/D converters also support multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) based wireless devices, 3G infrastructure equipment, and other wireless communication applications.
These high-speed converters can be used in communication applications with the ADL5202 variable gain broadband amplifier, AD8376 ultra-low distortion IF dual VGA, and ADA4937 ultra-low distortion differential ADC driver.
