Linear Technology Korea (Country Manager Hong Sa-kwak, www.linear.com ) announced the development of a synchronous buck-boost converter (product name: LTC3115-1) that provides a continuous output current of up to 2A across a wide range of power sources, from single-cell lithium-ion to 24V/28V industrial rail and 40V automotive inputs. The 2.7V to 40V input and output range of the LTC3115-1 provides a regulated output that is higher, lower, or equal to the input than the regulated output.



The low-noise buck-boost topology used in the LTC3115-1 provides continuous jitter-free transitions between buck and boost modes, making it ideal for RF or other noise-sensitive applications that require maintaining a constant, low-noise output voltage across various input power supplies. For most applications, a key advantage is the ability to extend battery runtime compared to solutions using only step-down. The LTC3115-1's switching frequency is user-programmable between 100 kHz and 2 MHz and can be synchronized with an external clock. Its proprietary 3rd generation buck-boost PWM circuitry ensures low noise and high efficiency while minimizing external component size. By utilizing small external components and 4mm x 5mm DFN or TSSOP-20E packages, this product offers a compact solution footprint.

The LTC3115-1 is equipped with four N-channel MOSFETs with low RDS(ON) and provides up to 95% efficiency. User-selectable Burst Mode® operation reduces standby current consumption to a very low level of about 50μA, improves light-load efficiency, and extends battery runtime. For noise-sensitive applications, Burst Mode operation can be disabled. In addition, features such as internal soft-start, programmable undervoltage protection, short-circuit protection, and output cutoff are provided.
The LTC3115EDHD-1 is available in a 16-pin 4mm x 5mm DFN package, while the LTC3115EFE-1 is available in a thermally enhanced 20-pin TSSOP package. Pricing starts at $5.35 and $5.55 per unit, respectively, based on a 1,000-piece order. The industrial-grade versions, the LTC3115IDHD-1 and LTC3115IFE-1, are guaranteed to operate over a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C and are priced starting at $5.89 and $6.11 per unit, respectively, based on a 1,000-piece order.
