KT announced on the 11th that it is launching 'KT School Commute Safety,' a children-exclusive service that allows guardians to check their child's school arrival and departure information and current location.

The KT School Commute Safety service notifies guardians via text message whether the child has arrived at or left school through a dedicated device when the child passes through the main or rear entrance of the school. Guardians must install a dedicated app and receive device authentication to use the service. The app allows guardians to check the child's movement route in one-hour increments, and real-time current location inquiries are also available. In case of an emergency, when the child presses the 'emergency call button' on the front of the device for approximately 2 seconds, the emergency call alert activates and an emergency message and current location information are sent to the guardian's mobile phone along with an alarm sound.

The dedicated device is capable of periodic location information inquiries in one-hour increments for up to 4 days on a single charge. When the device's battery usage decreases to around 20%, it operates in minimal power mode and provides only school arrival and departure notification functions for up to 2 weeks. The device has a loop so it can be attached to children's bags.

Guardians can set up to three guardians regardless of carrier and can use functions such as 'current location inquiry' to check the child's current location, 'location history verification,' and 'safety zone settings' that alert when the child leaves a designated area.

Kim Jun-geun, Executive Director of KT GiGA IoT Division, stated, "The KT School Commute Safety service was created based on the expertise KT has accumulated in providing B2B safety services to education offices and elementary schools," and added, "Since the service contains only essential functions for child safety, we can provide the service to many children within a given budget."
