TI Launches 80MSPS, 14-bit, 8-Channel ADC Providing Highest Noise Performance and Lowest Power for Medical Imaging Applications
TI Korea ( www.ti.com/ww/kr ) November 29, 2011 – TI has launched an 8-channel 14-bit ADC that delivers industry-leading noise performance and lowest power consumption at 80 MSPS. The ADS5294 meets developers' demands for power-efficient and cost-effective designs by supporting a best-in-class signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 75.5 dBFS at 5 MHz and sampling frequencies up to 80 MSPS. Featuring high performance and low power consumption of 77 mW per channel at 80 MSPS, the ADS5294 integrates a digital processing block, low-frequency noise suppression mode, and programmable I/O mapping capabilities. All of these features enable system engineers to integrate more functionality into smaller forms—specifically, more miniaturized medical imaging systems. Key Features and Advantages
• Improved Noise and Power Performance: The ADS5294 delivers superior SNR performance and enables developers of highly integrated applications to increase the number of channels without requiring increased power.
- 75.5dBFS SNR under 5MHz/80MSPS conditions
- 78.2 dBFS SNR and decimation filter available at 5 MHz
- 84dBc SFDR under 5MHz/80MSPS conditions
- 77mW per channel at 80MSPS (when 2 LVDS connections are made per channel)
- Low-frequency noise suppression mode
• The digital processing block integrates system functions used with average 2, 4-channel and 2, 4, 8-decimation filters.
• When the output data rate of narrowband applications is reduced, the digital processing block improves SNR and filter harmonic characteristics.
• Two LVDS interface connections: Using the ADS5294 allows digital data to be output through one or two LVDS pin wires per channel, thereby reducing the number of interface lines. This creates a 2-wired interface that enables the use of low-cost FPGAs by keeping the serial data rate low.
• The ADS5294 offers the same advantages not only to medical imaging systems but also to radar, communications, test and measurement, and multi-channel data conversion applications.
Supply timing, packaging, and price
The ADS5294 is currently available in a 12mm x 12mm QFN 80-pin QFP package. ADS5294 is $84 per 1,000 units.
Tools and Support
An evaluation module is provided to offer a flexible environment for testing the ADS5294 under various conditions. The ADS5294 EVM is $299 and can be found at www.ti.com/ads5294evm-pr .
