It supports everything from sensor data collection to visualization and reporting.

SAS Korea is supplying the SAS Smart Factory analytics solution to Kolon Benit, an IT service specialist, and is pursuing the establishment of Kolon's integrated big data analytics platform capable of supporting Industry 4.0.

The SAS Smart Factory Analytics Solution consists of: SAS Event Stream Processing, which transforms and analyzes millions of sensor data points per second in real-time to detect patterns of interest before data is stored; SAS Visual Analytics, a visualization solution for visually analyzing big data; and the SAS Quality Analytics Suite, which analyzes and monitors data using various analytical techniques.

This enables the collection of IoT and sensor data and the processing of real-time streaming data. Furthermore, it allows for prediction and optimization models utilizing machine learning, as well as text analysis. It enables rapid corrective action by predicting potential failures or manufacturing defects in production facilities. Based on data analysis, it supports a process ranging from real-time collection to processing, analysis, visualization, and reporting.

Kolon Benit has been carrying out process digitalization work centered on Kolon's manufacturing division since 2015. We have accumulated data through connectivity across various industrial sectors within the group, and now it is time to move on to the next step: establishing an analytics platform to create new business value, such as improving quality issues, streamlining equipment operations, and increasing yields through data analysis in the manufacturing sector.

Meanwhile, SAS is implementing smart factories in the manufacturing industry through IoT analytics. One global oil company is achieving implementation benefits worth over $3 million by processing and analyzing massive amounts of data—3 trillion per minute—from 2.1 million sensors in real time. In Korea as well, a recent proof-of-concept (PoC) conducted with a global manufacturer demonstrated a defect reduction effect of over 90%.
