TI Launches Industry's Smallest High-Speed USB Protection Device for Portable Applications

The first device to integrate ESD, overheating, overvoltage, and undervoltage protection in a single package

TI Korea ( www.ti.com/ww/kr ) September 23, 2011 – TI has launched the industry's first device integrating four USB 2.0 chip protection features into a single package. The TPD4S014 provides a high level of ESD protection and is the industry's smallest USB protection device, measuring 2mm x 2mm for four USB channels. The device features built-in over-temperature protection (OTP), where a switch turns off the power rail if the junction temperature exceeds 150°C. If the power supply rail drops below 2.8V or rises above 6.15V, the over-voltage protection/under-voltage protection (OVP/UVP) function is activated, protecting the power rail from fluctuating voltage lines by immediately opening the TPD4S014's load switch. Developers can implement TPD4S014 in various design configurations requiring a small footprint, such as mobile phones, e-books, portable media players, digital cameras, tablets, embedded computing, portable navigation, portable surveying equipment, and portable test and measurement equipment.
