VMware Announces IoT Infrastructure Management Solution

VMware announced VMware Pulse IoT Center, an enterprise-grade IoT infrastructure management solution, at EMC World 2017 held in Las Vegas, USA.
VMware Pulse IoT Center is VMware's first IoT infrastructure management solution, providing a flexible connection between the edge systems and connected devices required for IoT infrastructure. Leveraging monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities with VMware's integrated endpoint management solution, AirWatch, and device management functions, it connects, manages, monitors, and protects edge systems, connected devices, and applications based on different hardware, operating systems, and communication protocols. Based on a sophisticated and flexible rules engine, it immediately reports the status to IT administrators and tracks changes whenever connected objects are updated or modified.
Furthermore, VMware Pulse IoT Center provides an intelligent operational approach. Through real-time infrastructure monitoring and analysis, it visually indicates the status, location, and dependencies between all edge systems and connected devices, and enables rapid response when KPIs set by IT administrators are deviated from. Security features protect the entire IoT infrastructure. By adding VMware NSX, a network virtualization platform, it prevents data leakage through tunnels connecting data points to applications and prevents infection by isolating devices exposed to security threats. If an object is infected with malware, it can respond to security threats by automatically updating the software wirelessly.
VMware Pulse IoT Center is scheduled to be offered as an on-premises solution and a service in the future, and is currently undergoing beta testing in the automotive, entertainment, retail, finance, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors. Dell EMC plans to provide VMware Pulse IoT Center as an enterprise management and monitoring solution for Dell EMC Edge Gateway, enabling easy management of all IoT devices with a single tool.
Mimi Spier, Vice President of IoT at VMware headquarters, stated, “As IDC forecasts that the number of IoT endpoints will reach 30 billion by 2020 from 12.1 billion at the end of 2015, enterprises must be able to manage these numerous endpoints in a simple and efficient way,” adding, “VMware Pulse IoT Center will accelerate innovation in IoT infrastructure by providing visibility, security, and control over connected things.”

VMware: 43% of 500 Office Workers Fully Comply with IT Security
VMware Korea announced research results on the current state of digital workspaces for office workers. The study was conducted based on a survey of 500 office workers employed across various industries including domestic manufacturing, medical and healthcare, consumer goods, and public sectors. According to the research results, office workers showed increased usage of mobile devices and applications during work, demonstrating awareness of the need for flexible work environments. Respondents used an average of 2.4 devices and 5.4 applications, with primary work tasks identified as email and message checking and response, financial transactions, and work file operations in that order.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
